RAM announces with great sadness the recent passing of their long-serving Technical Manager for Africa, Louis Du Plessis.
Louis was an integral part of the RAM service team for over 10 years. He was well-liked by his colleagues and customers and was famous for his love of a good chat.
His dedication, expertise, and unwavering commitment to customers and the industry left an indelible mark on all those who worked with him.
Louis dedicated 44 years of his life to the industry, beginning his career as an apprentice electrician in Durban before spending 28 years with Transnet. After qualifying, he gained extensive experience across various departments before securing a role as a Technician at the Durban Container Terminal.
Louis served as a team leader and supervisor, overseeing a team of technicians responsible for maintenance and standby repairs on container cranes. His expertise and dedication allowed him to develop a deep understanding of container handling equipment, making him a respected figure in the industry.
One of his proudest achievements was returning to the Durban terminal as a supplier and reconnecting with many of the team members he had mentored as young tradesmen.
During his time with RAM, he travelled extensively, often to challenging and remote African ports. His ability to get the job done in demanding conditions with limited resources was a hallmark of his career.
To his colleagues and customers, Lou was more than just a team member; he was a mentor, problem solver, and friend.
He was admired and loved by his peers and will be deeply missed.
